Using framing to disturb the viewer:

The human mind likes everything to be consistent, so when something seems out of place we tend to feel offput or even disturbed.

Filmmakers utilize this psychological trait to create extra tension in their films;

Our brains naturally compensate for the rotation of our heads. If you tilt your head to the left, everything still appears to basically be right-side-up.

So when we tilt the camera by a few degrees and the scene suddenly looks crooked, our brains don't really know how to process this - we aren't used to the world looking crooked.

This is called the Dutch Angle and it's used in every single movie to create extra tension during intense scenes (usually involving dialogue).
